Bangkok hosts Sister Cities Week

Hanoi joined up with 17 other cities from across the world to enhance their friendship with the Thai capital city of Bangkok over Sister Cities Week which began on Feb. 9.
Vietnam’s pavilion at the event, which is being held in Benjasiri park in Bangkok , is decorated with familiar Vietnamese images including the national flag, bamboo and canonical hats along with a book about President Ho Chi Minh.

Many of the country’s famous tourist destinations such as Thang Long royal citadel and the Phu Quoc and Con Dao islands were also spotlighted at the event.

Vietnam ’s Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang said that the week helps cities to strengthen their relationship with the Thai capital, especially in economics and tourism.

The cities also have a chance to promote their mother countries and peoples while promoting their experiences in creating green and environmentally friendly urban areas.

Bangkok ’s Mayor, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, said the week will build on existing ties between the cities and improve mutual understanding between them.

The Mayor stated that Bangkok has struck up a friendship with 18 cities from 13 countries worldwide, many of them capitals, adding that all the cities regularly engage in cultural and tourism exchanges.
